I can see, although I am drenched in shadow, that the sun is shining. I can see it travelling which will, on some days, bring me closer to the light.

I can see, although I am drenched in shadow, that the sun is shining. I can see it travelling which will, on some days, bring me closer to the light.

The vastness of this complicated world can overwhelm me, unless I pay attention to the small and the fragile, the imperfect and the loveliness, of what is near and dear to me.

This inspires me to refocus and I am happy I can shared my words of poetry, words of despair and hope, with those around me.

Dignity

Dignity

Touches my hand.

It is gentle,

not just because it has to.

Dignity

Straightens my pillow

with more

than just hands that are trained to.

Dignity

Looks passed

decline and my loss

and remembers something

stronger.

Dignity

Let’s me stand tall

even when I no longer can.

Gives me strength

when I have none.

In return

I offer you dignity

of person.

Beyond a name badge and  a shift.

I offer you my lack.

It’s what I have to offer.

Let’s share

dignity.

Placing family in care is tough for them and tough for us. I am grateful for the care my family receive, often from people who have come to the UK from other countries. All the staff offer so much warmth and care. This poem is my thank you to them all.
